25 May 2013 - Gavan Burden
Having won the toss and elected the bat, the Vine started superbly with openers James Hedges and Sam Cox putting on an unbeaten 50 inside the first 15 overs against a disciplined opposition bowling attack. Hedges eventually fell for 44 but Cox went onto make 93 and provided the backbone for a big first innings total. James Page added a characteristically quick 21, whilst Elliott and Asif both chipped in with 17 each. A total of 227-8 was a very pleasing score, especially given it was the team’s first real bat of the season.
Snodland Community never really threatened to get close to the Vine’s toal, losing wickets at regular intervals. The home side’s bowling proved to be as impressive as the batting had been for the Vine, with all six bowlers contributing to the wicket column. The depth in bowling was a promising sign for Captain Colley, who himself picked up four all be it for a few more runs than he might have liked!
Two very big wins to kick off the Vine’s season puts them in very good stead to mount a title challenge.
