Ken Smart

Ken was a dedicated member of SVCC, one of the club stalwarts who took it upon himself to become club historian and wrote his first history of cricket on the Vine in 1959.  He was commissioned to update the book “Cricket on the Vine 1734 – 1984” to commemorate 250 years of cricket on the Vine.

Fast bowler who once took five wickets in five balls for SVCC – a feat subsequently repeated by Nick Preston.  He played for the Club Cricket Conference and was an enthusiastic member and patron of Sevenoaks Wednesday CC.

Ken developed and prepared the Club’s second ground at Knockholt and was elected an Honorary Life Member in recognition of his long dedicated service to the Club.

Ken left a generous bequest to SVCC on his death which substantially enabled us to install a modern electronic scoreboard and is commemorated by a plaque on the score box.
