2nd XI Enjoy Comfortable Win Over Tenterden 1st XI
5 May 2021 - Harry Robinson
The Vine 2nd XI warmed up for the start of the League season with a convincing win away against Tenterden 1st XI, at one of the most idyllic grounds in Kent. Winning the toss and electing to bat, the Vine got off to a near perfect start with Michael Thompson and Tom Harvey, two 2nd XI stalwarts, putting on a century opening stand. Thompson departed for 73 shortly after hitting an enormous 6 down the ground, a perfect yorker outdoing the batsman on this occasion. Harvey on the other hand continued fluently, looking extremely comfortable at the crease utilising his sweep shot to good effect. Unfortunately however Harvey popped one back to the bowler on 93, a great innings nonetheless. The only other noticeable contribution came from Guy Bevan-Thomas, who scored 30 before retiring hurt following a hamstring injury, taking the side to 247 after 50 overs. After a fast start from the Tenterden opener, James Carslaw came to the party and cleaned up the top order in a spell of 8 overs 4-29, a great return to the side after a few years out. Michael Thompson continued his fine day by picking up 3 wickets, supported nicely at the other end by fellow off spinner Akhil Shah who picked up a wicket in a tidy spell of bowling. The Vine 2nd XI can take great confidence from this victory into their league opener, away at Bromley Common next week.
