3rd XI gets rained off v New Ash green
7 Aug 2017 - Tom Parsons
Rain proved to be the winner again for the second time in three weeks for the Third Team
as they hosted New Ash Green at Orchard Field. On a soft looking wicket, Robinson won
the toss and opted to bowl at the visitors, a decision that proved to be justified when Tom
James (3-10) took an early wicket caught and bowled in the fourth over. However, only
two overs later, rain struck with New Ash Green 11-1 off six overs.
Forty five minutes later, the rain stopped and sun began to shine. The Third XI picked up
from where they left off with James striking twice more with an outswinging yorker hitting
the off stump and a simple catch to Proctor at cover. Yet, the rain began to fall once more
and with New Ash Green at 65-3 in the twenty-first over, there was to be no more play in
the day with the Umpires deeming the wicket too wet and unsafe to play on.
Next weekend, the Third XI travel away to Oakfield Warriors and will certainly hope for
some sunshine!
