Mike Hibling

7 Dec 2019 - Alan Smith

We are extremely sorry to advise that Mike Hibling died on Wednesday night following a long period of illness, very bravely borne.

Mike was a distinguished member of the Sevenoaks Vine Club and of both its Sections. As a hockey player, he was a fine 1st XI goalkeeper for several years in the late 70’s and early 80’s, later becoming an outfield player for the rest of his playing career. As a cricketer, Mike captained the Vine Cricket Club’s Extra A XI and was responsible for bringing a number of other illustrious players to the Club. He was an important and stalwart supporter of both Clubs and brought his energy and wisdom to bear in several of their committees over the years. Most recently, he was the driving force and inspiration behind the Vine Former Players events at Cricket week, which reunited many old friends. In all things, he brought his boundless enthusiasm and companionship so that anyone who ever played any sport with him or spent time in his company felt the better for it.

He will be deeply missed by us all and our thoughts are with Nicki, Romilly, Max and all of the family at this saddest time. We will advise the funeral arrangements in due course.
