Old Oaks Lose to Judd School Staff in Final Over Thriller
5 May 2021 - Harry Robinson
The Old Oaks were delighted to be back at the Vine to take on the Judd School teachers in a 16 over game on Friday evening. The forecasted rain didn’t materialise and it turned out to be a bright if chilly evening for cricket. The Judd won the toss and put the Old Oaks into bat, and the Old oaks proceeded steadily at around 7 an over, but lost wickets regularly. Sykes got to 25 but blotted his copybook by running out fan’s favourite Simon Judd, who despite an impressive dive and a couple of forward rolls ended up about 6 yards short of the crease. The Old Oaks ended up on 109 – 8.
The Judd teachers got off to an impressive start in reply, with both openers retiring at 25 and looked on course for a comfortable victory before a late flurry of wickets blew the match wide open. Simon Judd took a couple of fine catches and if Sykes hadn’t dropped a simple chance to dismiss the Judd’s star man Milo Richardson, off the skippers bowling, the Old Oaks would have recorded a unlikely win, similar to their dramatic victory the week before over Sevenoaks School’s Orbilians. David Nix bowled well on debut, but in the end the Judd needed 5 off the last over which they got with a ball to spare. The Old Oaks play Sevenoaks Rugby Club on Friday at the Vine, 5.30 start.
