Sevenoaks Vine 2nd XI Match Report vs Bexley 2nd XI

Sevenoaks Vine CC visited Bexley hoping to make it 6 wins in a row on Saturday. After winning the toss SVCC elected to bowl first attempting to carry on their strong start to the season and opening bowling duo of Johnson and Carslaw carried on from the Beckenham game bowling tight lines keeping the run total low and frustrating the batsman. The breakthrough came when Carslaw removed one of the openers trapping him LBW giving the Vine some much needed momentum. The fielding for the Vine would prove to be costly as numerous drop catches at crucial parts of the game and great batting from the Bexley opener saw him reach his hundred having been dropped on 22 and 46 early in his innings. Quick wickets from Reid Dick and Richardson pushed the game back into SVCC’s favour and when Johnson removed the opening batsman SVCC looked to be keeping Bexley below 200 but with wickets in hand the Bexley batsman did not let the game get away from them scoring quickly in the last 10 overs targeting the short boundary eventually reaching a total of 243-5.

The Vine were unable to get their innings going with great bowling by the Bexley bowlers and superb fielding it proved to be a tough day for the Vine batsman. With the batsman becoming tied down at both ends, loose shots proved to be the Vines downfall and the Vine were unable to form partnerships which could give their innings some momentum which led to the first loss of the season for the 2’s.

The 2’s play Tenterden away on Saturday which will be another challenging game for the youthful Vine team who currently sit top of the Kent Premier League Table on 92 points.
