Tough day at the office for the 3’s v Leybourne
5 Jul 2017 - Tom Parsons
Saturday proved to be yet another frustrating day for the Third Team as they succumbed
to a strong Leyboune side. On a good looking wicket, the Vine won the toss and elected
to bat first. However, the Leybourne openers bowled well, restricting the Vine to 10 for 1
off the first seven overs. With Bevan-Thomas batting superbly (54), the Vine solidified a
nervy start, making 72-3 by drinks. However, wickets began to tumble at regular intervals
with the middle order failing to build upon a decent platform, the Vine were all out for 133
off only thirty three overs.
It was always going to be a tall order for the bowlers to defend the total, particularly with
the in form Leyboune batsmen knowing they needed less than three an over. Robinson
and G Scott both managed to take an early scalp, however, there were simply not enough
runs on the board. Leybourne finished the run chase with 15 overs to spare with only
three wickets down (shared equally between Robinson, Scott and Elliot). The Third Team
will look to bounce back in two weeks time when they welcome Belvedere to Orchard
Field and hope to get themselves out of a relegation battle.
