U13s Beat Noisy Neighbours Holmesdale in Derby Day

10 May 2021 - Harry Robinson

A warmer day and a lovely setting for a competitive fixture in the Invicta under 13 Championship.

Vine skipper Lucy Blincoe won the toss and chose to bat first on a slowish wicket which was tough going early on. Kieran Gant and Thomas Porter got the Vine off to a reasonable start before wickets started to tumble. The Holmesdale bowlers kept things tight and there was some excellent catching backing the attack up. Wickets were shared around but Harry Bowen (3-12) stood out. The Vine innings was rescued by debutant Xavier Prongue who, batting at 6 finished the innings with an excellent 56 not out. He was well supported by James King for the final overs and a total of 146 was set.

Holmesdale’s response was more balanced with runs shared among the batters. Max Baker, Jack Parker and Aidan Moore all played well with the former 2 retiring at 30 and Alex being not out at the end. Ultimately the Vine bowlers kept it tight in a really close match and held on for an 8 run victory. Jasmine Beckett’s 2-6 off 3 overs was the stand out bowling performance.

The match was played in great spirit throughout and Holmesdale were, as ever, great hosts. Thanks for the support and a special mention to maths man Kevin Gant for scoring! Well played all.
