Last Friday saw a rare away trip for the Old Oaks, to Sevenoaks Prep on the other side of Knole Park. The Prep captain called the shots and selected an 16 eight ball over format which seemed reasonable until the Old Oaks mathmetician Simon Judd pointed out that is 128 balls, or over 21 normal overs, a test match by our standards.
The prep batted first and got off to a strong start, opener Clarke batting aggressively and scoring a quickfire 23 before being run out by a direct hit from Tiley on the boundary at square leg. He also took a couple of wickets including Sam HArvey, one of our own, who’d managed to survive a run out appeal and a dropped catch scoring his 6. They batted quite well, clearing the ropes on numerous occasions on the short boundary and finished with 159 for 5 of their 16 overs.
The old oaks didnt get off to the best of starts with the preps star bowler Hazel Lovegrove bowling both Dickinson & Nash cheaply, but BT found his groove and retired with 27. The run rate went up to around 12 an over briefly but then some fireworks from Jones and Tiley, including a 30 run over from Sam Harvey, got us all but over the line. Myself and Lowndes completed the job with 3 overs to spare.
