An unusual fixture in the OO’s calendar, which saw us change grounds for some club called the “MCC” using the Vine and our opponents according to the fixture book should have been the Rugby Club, turned out to be Sevenoaks Prep.
With Captain Compton on holiday stand in skipper Taylor took the reigns. The captain agreed for the oppo to bat first as they only had 6 men turn up on time, which didn’t include their very own captain!
After two overs the score was 25-0, Churchman and Lowndes taking a pounding! A change in the field and some quality slow bowling from Smith and Rumbelow, restricted the oppo to 108-8 off 16 overs. What was particularly pleasing was Rumbles bowling, his slow slow bowling was so slow that each batsmen took two attempts at each delivery which completely fooled them.
Enter the OO’s, chasing 109 to win, Ransom opened with Seldon. Both looked good until Ransom “smashed” Hazel (yes Hazel) to mid wicket and was caught by a stunning catch. What could be worse than be out to a woman at cricket or being out by a French man (M Jones!)
Seldon and Taylor both retired on 25, with Lowndes and Collins ending on 20 not out. The game was comfortably won by 9 wickets with two overs to spare. The only loss of wicket was to a woman!
