St Michael’s

23 May 2014 - Charlie Compton

Without our 100% winning Skip being absent as his wife would not allow him to play!!!

St Michael’s won the toss in this 16 over match and chose to field. We quickly lost a couple of early wickets the 2 Gavin’s Tovey and Burden ( who claimed this was the first time in his illustrious career that the had been caught down the leg side!!!) The ship was steadied by Nigel Taylor ( who wasn’t as fluent as the previous week when he played against us but still effective) and Dan Tiley ( looking to impress his sons that were cheering him on!) who both retired at 25. Mike Jones and Macca then fell cheaply and it took a late flurry from Nigel Ransom 23 n/o to get us to 113. This score was helped by some poor fielding from James Ashdown who avoided catches, dropped catches and mis-fielded on numerous occasions ( I guess he is still a Vine man!)

Looking to make amends for his dismal fielding performance James Ashdowm scored a quick fire ( as he had to leave for a dinner party sociable as ever!)  24 before he was stumped of the impressive bowling of Will Minto ( 3 ov 1 / 9 ) We kept taking wickets due to Dan Tiley ( 3 ov 3 / 20)  and kept ourself in the game until it was spoilt in a flash. I won’t name names but when this person was asked if he wanted to bowl he replied NO. So not taking no for an answer he conceded a single off the first ball then took a wicket with a good stumping ( oh forgot off a wide!) He then asked if he could be taken off ( oh how I wish we had as the next 4 balls went for 18). How to ruin a good game! St Michael’s reached the target with 10 balls to spare for 5 wickets! What could have been!

I am sure it will be business as usual on Friday with the return of our leader, refreshed after his mid season break!
