The Judd

30 Apr 2013 - Charlie Compton

The Old Oaks hosted The Judd on Friday, and despite of poor forecast the rain held off and there were even glimpses of blue sky. The Judd put us in and Gavin Tovey got us off to a good start. We had two Americans in the side, John Harkin and Mitch Hanley, who had not played cricket before, who unfortunately got a four seam fastball slider first ball from young Smith.

Our innings stalled a bit in the middle, but McMenemy, ever conscious of his average, got a steady 25 no. We finished with a reasonable 97 off our 15 overs.

Our bowling attack got off to a good start with Crook and Churchman opening, and we had them at 18-3 after 5 overs. They progressed at a steady pace, but wickets fell quite regularly and the Old Oaks appeared to be in control. Then they inserted a very useful batsman down the order, who smashed Jones for a huge over which changed the direction of the game. In the end they won with a couple of overs to spare.

Team:- Charlie Compton (Capt), Gavan Burden, Richard Crook, John Harkin, Mike Jones, Gavin Tovey, Paul McMemeny, Alan Smith, Allan Churchman, Mitch Hanley, Will Minto

    1. Yes, oh to be young again! The “fairly useful batsman down the order”, I think, was young Mike Smith (a SVCC 2nd XI player on many occasions last year) who also picked up a couple of wickets – some of which may even have been out!
      It’s a shame we didn’t keep the score at 18-3 for a few more overs 😉 !!
But another good game though – we are getting there. 🙂
