We entertained top of the table Bidborough who we tied with earlier in the season when both sides would argue that they should have won the game. Since that game Bidborough had been undefeated.

Bidborough won the toss and batted, the third match in a row that we were to chase. SC bowled a tidy first over but it was RB bowling down the hill who struck first bowling O’Donnell for 0. Wickham and Bailey soon upped the tempo and B-T brought himself on but they played him very well and looked to score at the other end. It was though left to FK to get Bailey out, an excellent caught and bowled outstretched and with two other boys converging on the catch – 38-2 in the 8th over.

SZ and BE were brought on and were punished for any loose balls, it is so important to pause at the end of your run up especially after being hit for 4 or bowl a wide to collect your thoughts and focus on the next ball you are going to bowl rather than rush through the over. Wickham and Shepherdson were rotating the strike well and waiting for bad balls and at half way they were 55-2.

A final score of under 120 was the target to chase, but it did not go to plan with Bidborough scoring 82-2 off the last 10 overs, it just showed how important it is to get a good base with wickets in hand and accelerate in the last 10 overs.

B-T captained well and rung the changes in the bowling departments but hats off go to Bidborough who played beautifully, Wickham and Poulsom both passed 25* and Shepherdson ran himself out going for a suicidal single for 22.  SC picked up the last wicket in the penultimate over with another caught and bowled. 137-4 was going to be a tough ask. Credit to the boys they kept going and again fielded well and caught well.

RB stepped up to partner ZI against what I feel is the best two opening bowlers in the League, Baker and Shepherdson who bowl quick and make the batsmen play every ball as they look to hit the top of off stump. ZI went in the second over to a superb diving catch at silly Mid-on, RB played nicely getting behind each ball but he got a beauty from Baker, 8-2 off 4 overs. FK joined B-T but was needlessly Run Out and we were 11-3. We cannot give away easy wickets against the good sides.

SC joined B-T and started to repair the damage, but it was tough going against some accurate bowling that left us 27-3 off 10 overs. They both started pushing the score along and they had scored 37 off 4 overs before SC went for 24, one short of retiring caught off Green. An excellent innings and his highest score of the season and a 57 run partnership.  B-T passed 25* shortly after and we had two new batsmen in, JB and MK with 4 overs left. With the bonus points coming in to play we passed 75 and targeted 90 for a further point, but fell short finishing 84—8 off the 20 overs. The innings fell away as we looked to continue to score quick runs.

No disgrace losing to them, but felt 115-120 was a par score and we let them get 20 runs too many. Bidborough also learnt from our previous game when they gave away 51 extra!, this time round they conceded only 24. We must learn to get a good base in place when batting and accelerate through the innings, Bidborough did this and we were in recovery mode after losing 11-3.

Many thanks to David Knox for Umpiring and Rachel B-T and the mothers for organising the teas.
