Bells Yew Green

8 Jul 2012 - Mike Wright

For the second time in a week Vine U13 met Bells Yew Green. This time at Otford grounds.

BYG won the toss and elected to field.

James Bevan Thomas and Charlie Oster opened on a damp pitch. Oster was looking in fine form and hit his first ball for 4 – a flat baseball shot that nearly took out the visiting umpire. JBT was soon back in the pavilion for 8 to faint nick well taken by the keeper. Robert Andrews held up his end and played some good shots for 10. At the other end Oster was wacking the ball all over the park and soon retired on 52 not out as wickets fell at the other end. O Seth came in to play a cameo for 11.

Vine scored 113 in 20 overs.

BYG came to the wicket under a grey sky and were quickly in trouble as Vine bowler C Oster bowled their opener for a duck. O Seth then bowled the next batsmen for 2 and wickets tumbled in quick succession with only opener I Allen providing resistance with a good knock of 22. BYG were all out for 71.

Captain Bevan-Thomas rotated his bowlers with everyone getting a chance to bowl.

Pick of figures were:

O Etchells – 2-1-9-2
J Bevan-Thomas – 1-0-2-2
F Enslin – 2-0-15-2

Special mention should be made of Felix Enslin – who seemed to attract the ball but got his body inline each time and stopped many extra runs.
He then came on to bowl for his season debut and took 2 wickets in his first over. Ben Foss also had his bowling debut but it was very short lived as he took the 10th wicket with his very first ball.

Well played and thanks to James and Michelle Chitty for scoring for me.

Look out for news on the rescheduled Holmesdale match and the Father / Sons match on Sunday (please let me know if you haven’t already).
