Tunbridge Wells

1 Jul 2012 - Mike Wright

Last Sunday Vine U13s played Tunbridge Wells at the Vine pitch.

Many thanks to stand in umpire Patrick Seth and scorer John Devaney and to the Mums who helped out with the tea.

Vine batted first but were soon under pressure loosing captain James Bevan-Thomas and Charlie Oster for single figures.

Enter Man of the Match Ben Devaney – who blazed 7 fours and 1 six to retire not out on 50.

Unfortunately it was downhill from there and Vine only managed 110

TW had a similar scorecard with opener Spingett hitting 52 and retiring, but they managed a supporting role by Fung-on who posted 23 and set up an exciting finish. With 2 overs to go and still needing 6 runs to win, Vine took the #11 batsmen’s wicket which unfortunately brought Springett back to the wicket and he hit the winning runs in double quick time.

Again it was Devaney’s time to shine with 4 overs 3 for 12 runs.

Next time – drop the catch !!! and leave the tail-enders to chase the runs…
