30 Oct 2012 - Tonya Williams
Vine’s season was shortened by the withdrawal of a team from the Border league and then some well documented rainfall. In the end just one friendly was played and 6 league matches.
The early season friendly against Otford was a huge success as both teams got some much needed practice out in the middle. In the end Vine sneaked the win but not before Otford had given them a scare with some fine batting from their lower middle order.
The League season saw Vine finish in second place narrowly missing out to Tunbridge Wells. Fine victories were recorded against Holmesdale and Cowdrey (twice). It was the home game against Tunbridge Wells that really decided the league as Vine lost on the last ball of a fantastic game of cricket. It was credit to this group of young players that they came so close and indeed probably should have won this game but for 4 crazy overs at the end.
Many thanks go to Guy Bevan-Thomas who has captained this side with great skill throughout the age groups always managing to get all his players involved at every opportunity. He was also the recipient of the batting award for this year. The bowling award went to Harry Robinson who developed into a lethal change bowler and was fully deserved after all the hard work he has put into his cricket at the Vine.
Other mentions go to the following who have all been major contributors to this team throughout their time at the Vine. We wish them every success in the future and look forward to seeing some of them progress through the academy at the Vine:
Jamie Richardson, Piers Robinson, Gerard Lyons, James White, Fintan Baker-Howard, Lawrence Thresher, Dan Hickson, George Thresher, Dawid Vorster, Nick Bryant and Benedict Thompson.
