Sevenoaks Vine U15 took on Holmesdale under laden skies. The covers had protected the pitch from overnight rain and the weather looked increasingly positive. Vine won the toss and elected to bat – their standard strategy to date.

James Bevan-Thomas and Tom Pollington opened the batting and put on a quick-fire 50 in 7 overs before Bevan-Thomas looped a top edge from H Kooiman to gully for 33. Nick Bryant joined Pollington and together they set about the bowling attack. Pollington reached his 50 off 37 balls and shortly thereafter Bryant reached his 50 off 39. With contributions from the rest of the order, Vine posted 186 in 22 overs.

Pick of the bowlers for Holmesdale was H Kooiman who took 3 wickets for 25 runs in 4 overs.

Holmesdale took to the field under a passing shower and were quickly in trouble. Nick Bryant took an amazing one hand catch moving to his left from second slip to dismiss J Shamesh off James Carslaw. Next into the action was Bevan-Thomas with a low catch to dismiss T Blackmore off Pollington and then another much easier catch off Carslaw to see off W Meish.

Holmesdale were 19-3 off 6 overs.

Sam Brown held onto a blistering caught and bowled to dismiss the remaining opener (H Kooiman) and then Sam Marshall combined with Andrew Reid-Dick to get rid of P Wright.

Tom James held onto a high catch in the outfield and Brown scored with a direct hit to run out the last available batsmen.

Holmesdale could only manage 50 runs in reply.

Vine Man of the match – shared between N Bryant and T Pollington – for 50+ not out in less than a run a ball.

Thanks to Jeremy Marshall for scoring, Imram Zuberi, Rachel Bevan-Thomas, Will Reid-Dick and Alex Bryant for support.
