Match Report: Vine U15 vs Mayfield

29 Jun 2014 - Mike Wright

Vine U15 travelled to Mayfield Welbrook ground to play their U15 fixture.

Kindly standing in for the travelling manager was Vine Legend Mike Paterson and scoring was Richard Oster.

Vine won the toss and elected to bat (are you seeing a pattern here?).

N Bryant and N Zuberi started well until a mix up had Zuberi short of his crease. C Oster was next in and out holing out to the deep. Debutant Dawid Voster played a controlled innings helped by Sam Marshall and Josh Mudge.

Vine posted 137 in 22 overs.

Mayfield started slowly with a maiden from Oster bowling(in his dad’s words) “proper fast”. Andrew Reid-Dick opened with spin from the other end – keeping the batsmen guessing. Oster was soon rewarded but then a good stand by Mayfield lower order saw them make a game of it.

Tom James misjudged a high ball and split his finger in 2 – the game halted while James received treatment (without his spikes on) in the new pavilion.

Enter the Bryant brothers: Nick forced a run-out and Christian took 3 wickets before Reid-Dick and Oster cleaned up the tail.

Mayfield were all out for 105 – Vine won by 35 runs.

Man of the match was Charlie Oster – 4 overs, 4 runs for 3 wickets.
